World Bank “Subnational B-Ready Report on Italy”: Insights for Regional Competitiveness
Rome, December 3, 2025
Venue: EIEF
On December 3, 2025, EIEF hosted the World Bank Subnational Business Ready (B-Ready) report on Italy. The team presented the findings of its latest report on Italy’s local business environment, highlighting key insights and actionable recommendations. The report was part of a series of subnational assessments of the business environment in EU countries, requested and funded by the European Commission (DG Regio) and implemented by the World Bank. It explored within-country variations in regulatory frameworks, in the availability of public services, and in the efficiency of administrative procedures across 13 Italian cities. The event will shed light on the scale of subnational differences characterizing Italy, particularly in comparison with the other 11 EU countries assessed using the same B-Ready methodology. It will also highlighted local challenges and showcased replicable good practices. This was the third subnational study of its kind on Italy, following similar exercises conducted in 2013 and 2020 (link to the previous studies available here). The event offered an opportunity to take stock of changes, reforms, and progress in the regulatory environment in which Italian firms operate. The event was organized in collaboration with the World Bank Institute for Economic Development. For the complete program please visit the Events page.

L’Europa nel nuovo contesto di competizione geoeconomica - (Europe in the New Context of Geoeconomic Competition)
Rome, July 16, 2025
Venue: EIEF
EIEF, together with the Bank of Italy, organized a debate on how the European Union should address the challenges posed by the new geoeconomic competition. Since the end of World War II, it has been widely believed that strong commercial and financial integration could be a key factor in fostering economic development and preserving peace. The resulting multilateral system – based on the free movement of goods, services, capital, people, and ideas – seemed capable of including not only Western democracies, but also countries like China and Russia. However, the recent rise in geopolitical tensions has revealed how integration itself can also become a source of vulnerability. What policies are needed to address these challenges? Program.
